Prosperity Initiative registered its founding Board of Directors in 2007. This Board currently has four members: John Sayer (Hong Kong), Dr. John Marsh (Vietnam), Duncan White (UK), and Albert Tucker (UK). John Sayer is Oxfam Hong Kong's Executive Director; Dr. John Marsh was the project director for Prosperity's forerunner and former Country Director of Oxfam Hong Kong in Viet Nam and Lao PDR; Duncan White is a leading practitioner from the Fair Trade movement; and Albert Tucker is a leading figure in pro-poor economic and social development in the UK. As founding Executive Director, Dr. John Marsh is responsible for the executive management and strategic direction of Prosperity Initiative as a new international organisation. The Board's membership is expected to expand to 7 members in the near future. Prosperity Initiative has created a Corporate Advisory Group to provide leadership mentoring, to support governance and to help develop the board. The Corporate Advisory Group includes Jim Tanburn, a well known and respected in international private sector development practice. This group is expected to expand to 5 members during 2009. The leaders of the field programmes and operational functions form the Senior Management Team, which retains collective responsibility for delivery of the overall plan. Budgets are held at a programme level. Our approach to projects and programmes is one of collaboration, openness and accountability. Formally, we address individual programme and project level governance by establishing governance and advisory committees where relevant. For example, projects within Mekong Bamboo, such as the bamboo supply chain development project in Houaphanh province, Lao PDR, will have their own coordination and/or advisory committees with local partners in leadership and advisory positions. Smaller core donors and programme or project specific donors have the opportunity to shape and participate in these governance and advisory structures. |
