Dr. John Marsh, Head of Mekong Bamboo Programme As Executive Director and Head of Mekong Bamboo, Dr. John Marsh leads the implementation of Prosperity Initiative's flagship Mekong Bamboo programme. His experience includes more than 20 years spanning the public, private and, more recently, the development sectors. John came to Viet Nam in 2005 as Oxfam Hong Kong's Country Representative for Lao PDR and Viet Nam. In that role, he partnered with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to develop and lead the Oxfam-IFC bamboo collaboration that would eventually become Prosperity Initiative's Mekong Bamboo programme. John has worked in 16 countries as an independent consultant, Country Director for NGOs, agricultural/environmental engineer and market specialist. John holds a PhD in Natural Resource Planning as well as M.S. degrees in Development Economics and Environmental Management and a B.A. in Engineering.
Dr. Martin F. Albani, RBI Lead Martin leads the RBI (Results-based Initiative) Project in Lao PDR and Cambodia, which aims to improve rural livelihoods - and women's economic opportunities in particular - through innovations and support to the bamboo handicraft sector. Before joining Prosperity Initiative, Martin was a Senior Technical Advisor with the International Trade Centre, UNCTAD/WTO, for a national trade promotion and export development project in Hanoi. Martin has more than 24 years experience in professional management and enterprise development in Southeast Asia. In 2001, based on a project tender he won from the European Commission, Martin established and acted as the Executive Director of the European Business Information Centre (EBIC) in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, which delivered more than 100 seminars and trained thousands of participants on doing business with the EU. Martin holds a PhD in Biochemistry and an M.Sc in Chemistry.
Truong Duc Tung, Mekong Bamboo Vietnam Deputy Coordinator Tung coordinates all the Mekong Bamboo activities and manages key relationships with government agencies and Mekong Bamboo partners in Vietnam. Tung has been working in Vietnam for 15 years in different management and research positions in the government and UN agencies, NGOs and private companies. Prior to joining Prosperity Initiative, he was head of research at investment consultancy firm Savills, covering Vietnam and Cambodia. Tung holds an M.A. in Economics and Management of Rural Development from the University of Manchester, UK.
Sihattha Rasphone, Mekong Bamboo Lao PDR and Cambodia Deputy Coordinator Sihattha is Mekong Bamboo's Coordinator for Cambodia and Lao PDR. Based in Vientiane, he assists with all aspects of Mekong Bamboo's project planning and implementation. For the last 10 years, Sihattha has helped coordinate and deliver training for Japanese rural development, trade facilitation and alternative energy projects in Lao PDR. He has assisted the Ministry of Finance in Vientiane and advised investors and exporters establishing factories and other businesses in Lao PDR. Sihattha holds a Master's degree in computer science from the Japan Advanced Institute of Science & Technology (JAIST). He was also trained in "Sales & Marketing Management" and "Practical Corporate Management for ASEAN Countries" in Singapore organized by the Japan-Singapore Joint Training Program.
Ngo Viet Hung, Business, Supply Chains and Investment Lead As the Business and Supply Chain Team Lead, Hung spends a considerable amount of time in the field working with businesses to develop a strong bamboo industry in the region. In this role, he brings over 10 years experience in the private sector in sales, marketing, audit, finance and general management in various companies and sectors from his small business to big international companies. In addition to a bachelor's degree in Biochemistry from Hanoi University of Technology, Hung holds a graduate diploma in applied finance and investment from the Securities Institute of Australia.
Nguyen Thi Ha, Senior Programme Officer Ha joined Prosperity Initiative in November 2008 after seven years working in programme management roles and research for various NGOs and private companies. Before joining Prosperity Initiative, she was the lead for Oxfam Great Britain's Livelihoods Programme in Tra Vinh province. Ha completed her ADB-funded Master's Program in Public Administration at the University of Hawai'i, U.S.A. in 2006. She also holds a Leadership Program Certificate from the East West Center (U.S.A.) and two bachelor's degrees in English and Economics Management in Vietnam.
Pham Thanh Thuy, Programme Services Officer Working as a programme services officer, Thuy liaises closely with Mekong Bamboo Consortium partners to ensure partnerships remain on track in terms of deliverables, quality and financially. She also helps partners adopt management and reporting systems and provides capacity building for their staff. Thuy joined Prosperity Initiative after more than a year assisting with Flora and Fauna International's Vietnam Conservation Programme. She has also worked in the private sector with a major Vietnamese construction and engineering firm and conducted surveys for the United Nations Development Programme in Vietnam. Thuy is currently reading for a master's degree in development economics with the National Economics University, Vietnam, and the Institute for Social Studies, The Netherlands. She holds a bachelor's degree in agricultural economics and rural development from the Hanoi Agricultural University No.1.
