This note describes the gross margins prevailing for the major industrial and perennial crops in Vietnam based on the ‘large' sample of the Vietnam Household Living Standards Survey of 2006 (VHLSS06).

Second PI Impact Assessment Report (pdf, 1.36m)
The follow up to Prosperity Initiative's 2008 report, this 2009 report examines the impact of the industrial bamboo subsector on three upland districts in northwest Thanh Hoa based on a survey of 210 farm households and 110 bamboo traders. The report shows that projected increases in the price of bamboo can translate to more than 62,000 people leaving extreme poverty and up to $4 million more income for poor people in these districts.

Assessing Alternative Poverty Proxy Methods in Rural Vietnam (pdf, 1.2mb)
Co-authored by Linh Vu and Bob Baulch. This paper evaluates four ‘short-cut’ methods for identifying poor households using representative household survey data from rural Vietnam. It recommends the poverty probability method is the most accurate and robust ‘short-cut’ method for measuring poverty for specific sub-populations or in years when household surveys are not available.
